FUNDING

Funding is money that after you have been accepted to the NDIS you can spend directly on supports and services to help you with your disability or impairments - This is not CASH in the bank.

SUPPORT WORKER

This is a person that helps you with a support, it may be in your home or to help you get out into the community and participate in activities.
They may help with your personal care.


PLAN MANAGER

This is a qualified bookkeeper or accountant who will make sure all your invoices are paid on time from your NDIS funding to the people and companies who give you supports and services. This person can also offer you assistance in building daily money skills or help you learn how to become more financially independent. NDIA will pay for this service.

SUPPORT COORDINATOR

This is a qualified bookkeeper or accountant who will make sure all your invoices are paid on time from your NDIS funding to the people and companies who give you supports and services. NDIA PLANNER

This is the person who when creating you plan either NEW or reviewing for update, will work on your final plan details and have input to the final Plan Outcome. You will not generally be able to contact the NDIA Planner after a plan is completed and activated only if they have requested communications directly and usually not after the plan has been completed and activated, if you have questions about your plan ask your Support Coordinator OR call 1800 800 110 

CARER

This is a person who cares for you for most of the time, they will help with supporting you with your daily tasks, it may be a family member or a care worker who lives with you.

INFORMAL SUPPORT

This is a type of support that is usually provided by a family member, partner, friend or carer they support you much of the time, but they are not paid to do this, and they do not work for a company. If you lose an informal support, you should let NDIS know.

FORMAL SUPPORT

Formal Supports are provided through payments and are expected to fulfill the agreements set out in a service agreement, this is like a contract for someone or company to supply services or supports and be paid by NDIS funding.

SERVICE AGREEMENT

Service Agreements are made out like a contact when you use a service or support. It will have details like dates, prices and the agreed conditions that the supports or services should be delivered including any information for both your and their rights when working together.

SERVICE

Services can be many things including Plan Managers paying your NDIS bills, or, a psychologist, therapist or professional assistance giving you appointments and treatment, this could also be your support coordinator, plan manager or employment assistance organisation and the work they do.

PROVIDER

Providers are another name for companies, this is the NDIS word to call the companies who provide any services or supports that you may use, that are then paid from your NDIS funding.

SUPPORT

This is for when someone provides you with a support you need including things like helping you at home cooking, cleaning or gardening or it can be things like getting you out of the house, helping you get to an activity. It is when someone or something supports you doing what you need in your daily life.

PARTICIPANT

Participant means the person who has a NDIS plan and funding, this might be you, might be your child or might be someone you know.

STA

This is short way to say Short Term Accommodation. You can use your CORE funding in plan to pay for STA (ALSO Called Respite), but you need to remember that money might get short for other services from your plan. STA is considered to be up to 2 weeks at a time and unless separated funding for this is given to you in your plan it will take money from other services or supports, ask your Support Coordinator to find out if this is an option for you before you book anything.
Max of 28 Days Per every 12 months.

MTA

This is a short way to say Medium Term Accommodation. This is for when NDIA have approved possible options for you in new housing but are not ready to place you yet, it is for 90 days at a time and needs to be pre-approved before you can find a place, if there is a need for more time, you will notify NDIA before 90 days is up and then have another approval before time is over, this funding is provided separately and will not affect your funds used for other services or supports.

SDA

This is a short way to say Supported Disability Accommodation. There are many reasons for someone to be offered this as an option through NDIS. You may need special features in your home to make it safe and usable or you may need specialty care that cannot be provided in your home. SIL

This is a short way to say Supported Independent Living, this is when NDIA helps you find accommodation that will include supports to suit your needs, it is so that you can have your own space and be supported when you need it the most, without taking away your independence. https://www.ndis.gov.au/providers/housing-and-living-supports-and-services

ILO

This is a short way to say Independent Living Options, the NDIA has been listening to what participants really need and want to have the best life they can and be supported in the way they feel is best, this option is designed in 2 parts: Part 1 is to allow you explore the options you want to express which suit you best and set out a plan. Part 2 includes you putting the approved plan into action and reporting back to NDIA to let them know how it is all working out, you can call NDIA on 1800 800 110 for more information. NOMINEE

Nominee's are the people who you have chosen to help you with your plan in certain ways, this could be a correspondence nominee and that person will get all your information sent by NDIA to help you better understand the information. There are many types of nominees and usually when able you will choose who helps with what part of your plan.
